Kazakhstan wants to earn billions on agrotourism

The annual turnover of agrotourism in Kazakhstan may reach 10 billion tenge by 2025. This was reported to LS by the Kazakhstan Association of agro and rural tourism.

The organization explained that according to preliminary estimates, the total annual gross domestic product created through the development of agro and rural tourism in the regions may amount to about 10 billion tenge by 2025. Of these, up to 1 billion tenge is due to foreign tourists.

At the same time, according to the Association, at the initial stage in 2021-2025, the total need for investment to unlock the agro-tourism potential of the whole of Kazakhstan is about 1.5-2 billion tenge, excluding the construction of transport and engineering and communication infrastructure. Funding is needed for training rural residents to work in agrotourism, presenting mini-grants of up to 350 thousand tenge to rural residents and peasant / farm enterprises to purchase a minimum set of necessary fixed assets. It is also necessary to conduct expedition and inventory trips to draw up routes and create an initial register of agro – and rural tourism objects and products, to draw up tourist products and comprehensive plans for the development of the agro-tourism potential of regions/districts.

“A detailed assessment of the need for investment in the context of all regions is possible only after conducting expedition and inventory visits. Conditionally, on average, one region will need 100-150 million tenge to unlock its potential. The amount of investment in the next stages will depend on the level of entrepreneurial activity of the rural population, farmers and farms involved in agro – and rural tourism, as well as comprehensive plans for the development of the agro – tourism potential of the districts,” the Association noted.

The Association clarified that agrotourism is a vacation in rural areas using the full potential of the region, including visits to farms with immersion in the culture, life and traditions of the region.

According to the organization’s estimates, currently agro-and rural tourism in Kazakhstan is at an initial level: there are no established sustainable tourist products and territorial tourist brands, independent coordination of rural residents ‘ work on receiving tourists and holding event events is not established, communications and promotion channels are not developed, and so on.
